"META" CRS Records 2005 CANDIDA is an interesting phenomenon on the Polish scene, and no doubt, one of the best hopes among hundreds of bands aspiring to master the modern heavy sound. This band consists of musicians valued in the relative fields by bands, such as ARMIA, TRUPIA CZASZKA, DUMP, MOONLIGHT and HEADHUNTERS. The group was initiated in September 2003 by two musicians: Slepy ("Blind") – drums and Franc (read France) – guitar. In the spring of 2004, a vocalist and a guitar player, "Ramas", joined the band. Trouble with finding a solid bass player came to an end when the group was completed by Majkel (read Michael). CANDIDA proposes a mix of experience and musical craze, skill and tremendous youthful passion of playing. People who saw them in the rage of a concert - 'HunterFest', for instance, knew how tight the band was. Slepy is known to most as the drummer from ARMIA and TRUPIA CZASZKA, although, some remember him from rather nostalgic DUMP. Those who remember DUMP’S concerts with the leaders of American stage of noise/hard core in the 90’s, to this day respect DUMP as one of the best, as well as the most under minded phenomena of Polish rock. Not too many know that before the trans-noise DUMP, Slepy also had a brief friendly/artistic episode with THE ACID DRINKERS. Franc, the concept giver of CANDIDA, known in the past from numerous loud groups, occasionally fills in for Pawel Klimczak in ARMIA. Marek – the throat-tearing front man - is also a vocalist in prestigious HEADHUNTERS; and Majkel plays for the dark toned MOONLIGHT. CANDIDA, however, is not a result of a simple equation or some derivative of several styles; we are dealing with a totally new quality here. "META" is the dearest project to all of the band’s players. It is a result of a year's worth of playing and listening together, numerous discussions, arguments and fights. The 13 songs on the debut CD, "META" are a hot collection of loud screeching guitars, tight and root-booming bass, drums rolling like an avalanche and characteristic screaming – savage, rude, dark but well organized music. Many tried, but no one plays like this in Poland. The music reveals fasination with what is presently happening in America, with residue of the last decade's noises. Elements of love toward loud, nerve-wracking music are clearly heard here. This is a truly masculine project – brave, with no scruples nor regard for anyone. For their inspiration, CANDIDA will list Deftones, Queens of the Stone Age, Helmet, Tool, Steve Albini, but also Pink Floyd, King Crimson, jazz and even dance music. The sound that CANDIDA produces is universal, but the band lives and operates in Poland. Copying popular and unrelated templates in any theatre of operations would be useless; therefore, the band communicates pure Polish emotions. CANDIDA’S musicians can, and like, to “hammer it pretty hard”, but for them, the heavy sound is not the sole and only purpose. More importantly is the intensity of the experience, direct expression and true communication with the audience. No blabber. "META" is one of the most interesting rock debuts of the last few years. The CD is preceded by a single "Wiosenny" (The spring-like) along with a video clip of Szymon Felkel, filmed in a psychiatric care unit. Interesting metaphor – "Meta" is the hour of strong spiritual emotions, methodical rage of sounds limited by nothing.
