Refuse 2 Lose It was once said, "no doesn't mean no, it means find another way." Ed Wriott never took no for an answer. Raised on the Westside of Los Angeles, Wriott was an artist all his life. Even at an early age he was ahead of his class. He was drawing, painting, and was voted class president of his elementary school. "They told me I was a natural born leader before I even knew what that meant" says Wriott. His interest shifted from the drawing board to the notepad at 11 years old when he began writing rhymes and battling any competition he could find. Ed Wriott began making a name for himself in high school. He was moving crowds and rapping in lunchtime ciphers, quickly gaining young fans with his sharp punch lines. At 16, he recorded and released his first album, “The Blue Collar Symphony”, with producer and classmate Rocstar. He started a guerilla marketing campaign and slowly built a buzz with his hit, "Mr.O". The young entrepreneur continued networking and hustling his cd's and got his music into the "right hands", who helped Wriott pursue a record deal. He cut an album with the group Last Empire alongside producer Rocstar and fellow emcee Rimpau. They shopped the album to every major label in the music business, who one by one gave them the same answer-no. But Wriott knew what that really meant. Frustrated by the albums failure, his grocery store job, and the fact the group was going nowhere, Wriott took his business mind to the streets. "I was really stupid. I thought selling' d**e would make me successful like all the other rappers I looked up to. Now I realize they're all successful rappers, not drug dealers." When a sour deal landed Wriott in jail, he had to find yet another way. "Sitting in a cell is not the business. And jail is not the spot for me." Now dealing with probation and other legal drama, Wriott had to clean up his act and focus all of his energy on music. In 2005, Wriott recorded his second album, Sun Don't Chill, and applied his hustling mentality to his music career. The album hit the streets and Ed Wriott took off with another hit, “Know U Well.” Through word of mouth and a persistent street team, Ed Wriott's name was ringing throughout the streets of LA. In early 2006, he founded 2 time records with his partners Rimpau, Rick Bricks, and Big Business Mike. Together they released two mixtapes, “Get wit the Program vol. 1”, and the critically acclaimed street classic, “Get wit the Program vol. 2: On the Grind.” They hit the road and sold 60,000 copies of the two volumes out the trunks of their cars. 2 time records was a success and Ed Wriott was on his way to the top of the charts. But all good things come to an end. In the beginning of 2008 things began to change. Personality conflict, creative differences, and conflicting personal schedules led to the dissolving of 2 time records and a split amongst the crew. Rimpau, Rick Bricks, and Ed Wriott remained good friends but decided to go in different directions business wise. Not wasting any time, Wriott immediately began building his own studio and recording new material with an inventive, charismatic rapper from New York, Harlem Rimz. Together they formed Maxamillion records with Wriott’s old friend Big Business Mike. In October of 2008 the first release from Maxamillion records hit the streets, Ed Wriott’s “The New Breed Pt. 1: The Rebellion.” Through hard work, preparation, and more experience under his belt, Wriott made sure maxamillion records didn’t make the same mistakes 2 time records made. Wriott had found a new way. In a music industry evolving with technology, they created new strategies to market their music to a broader audience. They used the internet to reach people they couldn’t reach physically. A song called, “Get paid”, featured on “The new Breed pt. 1”, became a hit. With plays and views on the web reaching large numbers, Ed Wriott’s buzz was getting bigger than ever before. He and his crew began throwing shows, distributing the mixtapes to Mom & Pop business, and giving away t-shirts, hoodies, and various other promotional materials helping Ed Wriottt became one of the biggest names on the LA underground scene. Now armed with new music, a new team, a new business, and a new business plan, Ed Wriott is knocking on the door of superstardom, and he wont take no for an answer.
