Encouraged by some special father figures and other benevolent individuals throughout his humble beginnings, Derick dedicated himself to mastering the ‘ukulele-an instrument he believes has saved him although he turned away from it for years. He continues to answer this “calling in life,” using it as a tool to inspire the world. Derick has been internationally recognized by such acoustic innovators as Fishman, graced the stages of entertainment landmarks like Caesars Palace, and charmed audiences far and wide with nimble string skills and a passionate voice that transcends from his Kanilea Tenor, a refined Hawaiian Koa wood gem. Through love and perseverance, the ‘ukulele has escalated Derick to levels beyond his wildest dreams, taking him on tour to an array of national and international music and ‘ukulele festivals, concerts, private and corporate events, and he has had the honor of working for Pixar and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, along with performing at numerous ESPN, EA SPORTS, PGA and MLB events.
