Polar Seas is happy to release this collaboration between North Atlantic Drift and Northumbria. Inspired by northern, glacial imagery, and by the Canadian winter, this split release features 4 tracks by North Atlantic Drift and 2 pieces by Northumbria. “Polaris” and “Ursa Major” see North Atlantic Drift exploring electronics and layered instrumentation, while opening track “Ursa Minor” and closer “Perpetual Daylight” display a darker, more minimal, ambient sound, bringing to mind a combination of both Stars of the Lid and Boards of Canada. “Cold Wind Rising” opens Northumbria’s part of the release with a dark, unsettling drone, while “Vanishing Point” counters all of the preceding darkness with what might be one of their most beautiful, uplifting tracks to date. The album was mastered by James Plotkin and will be released on May 1, 2014 digitally and in a limited edition of 100 CDs. The physical edition comes in a stamped and numbered envelope featuring a cardstock booklet with artwork by Scott M2.
