For several years Charlie Nieland has been a contributor to Bushwick Book Club, a rotating group of songwriters and performers of all kinds putting on regular shows featuring new music, art and snacks inspired by a chosen work of literature. He and Susan Hwang, who founded the Bushwick Book Club in 2009, have now formed the duo, Lusterlit, as a new context for what they've done for years-- write, record and perform their songs inspired by literature. Both vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, Charlie and Susan have collaborated on recording their songs for the past year with Charlie producing. This has yielded two new releases, Charlie's HOPFUL MONSTERS and Susan's EVERYTHING IS SATEEN: FIVE SINGS INSPIRED BY VONNEGUT. On HOPEFUL MONSTERS, Charlie explores big atmospheric textures balanced with simplicity culled from the intimate setting of BBC.
