简介

Something To Say is the second album by Nicole Stella. Independently produced and released, it is the logical evolution of her previous work, New Day. In this album, Nicole crosses the border of folk and acoustic music, to offer a variegate tracklist, ranging from pop-rock (Sometimes, Something To Say), intimate ballads (You And I, Dead End), unusual harmonies in a folk song (Houdini) and even an electro-rock ballad (A Letter). Songs like Wild Flower, Night Of Light and Tied Down perfectly fit Nicole’s acoustic style, as in New Day, while Plastic is an interesting experiment in blues. Nicole’s outstanding voice is probably the main protagonist of the album, although guitars and pianos are very good supporters. For this project, Nicole involved three other musicians, who masterly enriched her sound: Claudio Benvenuto (electric guitar and slide guitar on Sometimes, Houdini, Something To Say, Night Of Light, Plastic), Giorgio Campera (bass on Sometimes and Something To Say) and Davide Lepido (drums on Sometimes, Houdini and Something To Say and synth on Plastic and A Letter). The album deals with freedom, seen as a constant research. A few songs metaphorically use precise cultural references to outline a description of freedom and the struggle to achieve it. In Houdini, for example, the great escapologist is a symbol of liberty. “My brain is the key that sets me free” is a quotation by him, which appears on the album artwork. On the other hand, A Letter investigates the connection between freedom and familiar affection, taking inspiration from Franny & Zooey by J.D. Salinger. All the other songs, even if connected to the songwriter’s personal experiences, can be seen as a universal call to freedom, not just from the external interferences, but from ourselves too. Overall, the album deals with stimulating subjects by offering an interesting mixture of different musical genres.
