John Valentine is “One of Hawaii’s Best Kept Secret”. He’s a great singer, great musician, great entertainer, and a great person. But the secret is getting out because some of the international stars who have found and heard John perform gave overwhelming positive reviews like Dionne Warwick, Bobby Hatfield, Jeffrey Osborne, Richard Roundtree, Cyndi Lauper, Wayne Brady, etc. and the list continues to grow. Nelson Cadiente is a just a quiet, good natured, humble guy who’s father passed away in 2003. Nelson was crying while staring at his father’s picture and he didn’t know why but he called his brother (Alex) up on the phone and said “Dad wants us to write him a song for his funeral services”. Nelson went to his brother Alex’s house and a song was composed (lyrics, chords, and melody) within an hour by Nelson with Alex coming up with the chorus. When Nelson's mom passed away in 2005, his brother Alex told Nelson, "You wrote a song for Dad, now you have to write one for Mom". Again, Nelson composed his second song within an hour for his mom. After that, Nelson continued to compose songs for his wife but didn’t know what to do with them since he can’t sing and have beginning guitar playing skills. One day Nelson thought of surprising his wife by trying to learn how to sing so he can sing the songs that he wrote for her. Nelson went to the yellow pages and found John Valentine to teach him how to sing. Nelson found out immediately that he was just not meant to sing and John asked him politely, “Is there anything else that you want to learn?” Nelson replied, “I want to learn to play the guitar? Again, Nelson just didn’t have the rhythm, timing, and the discipline to play the guitar proficiently. Then John asked Nelson one more time, “Is there anything else that you want to do? Nelson told John his story about how he got started composing songs and wanted to surprise his wife by taking singing and guitar lessons to sing the songs that he wrote. John listened to one of Nelson’s compositions, and since Nelson could not afford a professional singer, John volunteered his 10 year old son Daniel to sing with John playing all the instruments for the recording of “My One and Only”. Daniel had an awesome voice for his age and should have already been a professional singer. Nelson gave his wife the single song CD for Christmas 2005 and she was surprised! Nelson didn’t see John for a few years since Nelson’s daughter was going to college and Nelson started his real estate career with CENTURY 21 All Islands in Waikele. After a few real estate transactions, Nelson called John and wanted to continue recording. This time Nelson wanted John to sing the songs and after 12 songs and 1-1/2 years, “My Greatest Gift Of All” CD was completed. The CD was named “My Greatest Gift Of All” the same title as one of the songs because Nelson wanted to surprise his wife with singing and playing the guitar for his songs that he composed but he couldn’t. So, because of Nelson’s singing and guitar playing limitations, Nelson hired a professional to sing and play all the instruments. Nelson found out that his greatest gift of all is not singing or playing the guitar as he originally wanted to do.
