The maximalist opening of “Rose Glasses” falls into the nostalgic melancholy of “Back Home.” The Cohenesque nakedness of “Try Me” moves into the driving, half celebratory choruses of “L.A.” Written and recorded in late 2016 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., Don’t Be Sad Dance is the debut solo album of Lyell, whose recent work has been with electronic pop duo Tigers Are Bad For Horses.
