From the hilarious lyrics of "Ray's Bodega", to the true words of "Play The Role" and "Distractions", these tracks are a fresh mix of soul, funk, spanish guitar, spacey synths and deep, indie hip-hop flavor. The b-side's gonna surprise you with two lusciously smooth downtempo tracks entitled "Modern Atmospheres" and "Disconnected". Modern Atmospheres drops laid-back, Chemical Brothers styled beats, that get softened up with synth pads, jazz flute and guitar, along with subtly spoken vocal loops. Disconnected goes for an old school IDM-tinged flavor with lo-fi bass kicks and snares over a backdrop of vinyl static and mellow organ that gets joined by flanged and reverbed vocals. "Choice Cuts Vol. 1" is definitely eclectic. Highly recommended.
