简介
Jason Horowitz is an up and coming singer-songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jason got his start in public performance during his years at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He started playing open mics and house concerts and opened for New England folk scene regulars like Bernice Lewis and Bill Staines. After graduating, he moved back to the Midwest, playing the coffee shop scene in Madison and Milwaukee for two years before moving to Nashville, Tennessee. He played regularly in Nashville for five years at venues such as the legendary Bluebird Cafe, and he has opened for Mindy Smith, Jon McVey, and others. He now lives and performs in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jason traces his desire to write and sing from his summer camp experience at Camp Minikani in Hubertus, WI. "I used to watch my counselors sing and play at campfires," he says, "and I swore one day I would be like them." He taught himself to play the guitar as a teenager and began writing songs immediately. Jason's guitar style is influenced by artists such as Ellis Paul and Martin Sexton, and he commonly uses alternate tunings. Jason's songs are acoustic and lyric-driven. His songs are often personal and revealing and have been described as "powerful and heartfelt." When asked about his confessional writing, he said, "I've always believed that we have more in common than we think we do. If I write about things that are important to me, I think the chances are good that other people will relate." Jason's new album, Every Single Thing, marks a move from a contemporary folk style to folk rock. There are remnants of the campfire-like solo acoustic performances that Jason been known for in the past, but the infusion of energy from the full band parallels the change in Jason's music in moving from the Madison coffee shop scene to the Nashville bar scene. The album features talented Nashville musicians including Bill Renfrew (guitars), Jon Young (bass), Jim Bloodgood (drums), and Lisa Chesney (vocals). Jason's album has been well received in Nashville, and Jason was recently named a finalist in the River Bluff Music Festival Performing Songwriter Contest.
