Tango features four new compositions by songwriter/drummer Jeffrey Meyer. Together with Michael Pellera, keyboards, Tony Dagradi, saxophones, Ed Wise, bass and special guest Woody Mann, vocals. Tango navigates four genres- New Orleans feel, blues shuffle, contemporary jazz and culminating with a sultry tango. Pellera, Dagradi and Wise are New Orleans musical royalty, educating through their performances a new generation of musicians. Mann is widely known as a consumate guitarist in jazz, blues and the American roots movement. On Bunion Blues, Mann settles in this time, without his signature guitar sound but with his silky voice expressing the pain and understanding within the meaning of the blues. Meyer, a native New Orleanian, resides in New York, but has an indelible link to the musical ancestors of his birthplace which provided the inspiration for these compositions. As the drummer on his songs, Meyer sets the tone, then lets the band express itself as one voice. Tango, the title song, deliberately flows with a dream-like pace, giving Dagradi and Pellera the room to become embodied within the mood. Tango is more than a dance. It is a sensual connection between partners, through more than just music, movement or style. It is all those emotions with mysterious ingredients culminating with an undefinable spirit felt within our soul.
