Chris Gheran writes and sings his fresh Hard Folk the old-fashioned way. Think acoustic. Think lyrics that touch your soul. Sounds like John Lennon. Writes like Bob Dylan. Performs like Chris Gheran. Chris’s fourth album MATTERHORN was released on October 5 at Ironwood Stage & Grill. First album Monster (2008) rocks out his Hard Folk band style, Coup d’etat (2010) is a solo collection of unique perspectives on war and society. Calgary (2011) has a calico sound! ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2012 highlight was riding the rails with Ian Tyson in a city tribute. Chris confidently opened for The Fray at Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary 2011, played in Medicine Hat’s Tongue on Post Festival in January 2011, performed at the 2010 Calgary Folk Music Festival (6 performances) and hosted the CFMF 2010 Youth Songwriter Competition and judged 2012. Chris’s opening act complemented The Wailin’ Jennys and the influential Jonathan Richman (Sled Island). McGraw-Hill Iverson lists Chris’s “Pieces of Stone” video by Doug Cook as a teaching tool for Canadian schools. Chris is a recipient of 3 major grants. He also won JackFM’s Busker contest August 2010 and judged in 2011. Chris came in first at Shotz Bar & Grill singer/songwriter contest, was highlighted as a “Band to Watch” on FUEL, and was a semi-finalist in both the FUEL 90.3 Rock Star 2008 and Blind Beggar’s Big Rock/X92 Original Music Showcase. Chris was chosen to perform at Kelowna’s Rockanagan two years in a row. Energy 101.5 interviewed Chris, as did FUEL, CJSW, JackFM, 97.7 and X92.9 with on-air performances. Complimentary reviews have been published by Calgary’s Herald, Swerve magazine, Avenue, Mount Royal Reflector, FFWD, BeatRoute, the Sun, U of C Gauntlet, and the SAIT Weal; Saskatchewan’s Prairie Post and the Leader Post; Okotok’s Western Wheel; and The Golden Star in BC.
