World Percussion Grooves Vol. 1: Live percussion rhythms and sounds from Cuba, Puerto Rico, South America, Africa, Middle East and others world regions performed and written by Fernando Valencia. Fernando Valencia hails from Bogota, Colombia and served as principal percussionist of The National Wind Symphony of Colombia. He has also performed with the Symphony Youth Orchestra of Colombia, the Bogota Philharmonic, the North Arkansas Symphony and the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Valencia completed his BM at the Universidad Javeriana ( Colombia ), his MM at the University of Arkansas and later attended Temple University to complete the professional certificate of studies with Alan Abel of The Philadelphia Orchestra. From a very young age, and parallel to his studies, Mr. Valencia has been involved in the performance and research of his Afro-Colombian musical roots and Afro-Caribbean music, with additional academic studies in Colombia and The Instituto Superior de Artes in Habana-Cuba. He is a musician and member of the cast of the national TV show “What’s up que pasa!” Fernando is currently percussionist for the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas Philharmonic as well as musical director of the NAMA Award band Calle Soul and the Latin Ensemble of the University of Arkansa.
