简介
Melbourne-based Giles Field returns with his third album, Giles Field’s End Of Year Break Up. Featuring Sleigh Bells-inspired punk (Panasonic), Paul Kelly-esque ballads (No Christmas, One More Jesus) and unabashed comedy (Borderline Asexual) the album is available for FREE download at gilesfield.com. Essentially a collection of tracks that didn’t fit the narrative-based direction of his recent releases, this release defies easy categorisation. Drawing on a wide array of influences from the wit and lyricism of Jeffrey Lewis and Darren Hanlon, the punk of the Buzzcocks to the pop of Roxette, Giles’ work references modern Australian life with understated charm. Listeners may also find some similarity with Triple J favourite The Bedroom Philosopher (‘Songs from the 86 Tram’) who Giles supported late in 2010 at the Northcote Social Club. Two guests contribute to the album; Kate Walker’ and her sultry vocals appear on ‘Invisible Love’ while Courtney Barnett (Immigrant Union) joins Giles on their co-written duet ‘I Can’t Hear You, We’re Breaking Up’. If you are looking for a appropriately festive track this Christmas, then look no further than either ‘No Christmas’ or ‘One More Jesus’, the latter likely to be this year’s best yuletide tune set in a psychiatric ward. Giles continues to stamp himself on the Australian scene with support from community radio and a growing live reputation as a solo acoustic act. Armed with a guitar in one hand and a stack of CDs to flog in the other, Giles is ready for the mammoth task of winning the hearts of the world - one punter at a time. ‘… Giles Field tells a mean story, and writes an even better song.’ –Beat ‘…very personal and a touch political, somewhere between Billy Bragg and The Bedroom Philosopher…’ –Rave Magazine ‘… a voice that brings to mind musical storytellers such as Aussie pub rock legend Dave Warner… (and) geek rock godfather Jonathan Richman…’ – Melbourne Leader ‘… tells his story, with passion, humour and dorkish charm…’ – thedwarf.com.au
