Billie McKenzie sings in a friendly and mildly sexy double-entendre style during her ten numbers, Clara Morris' only four selections (she is assisted by pianist Blind John Davis and guitarist Lonnie Johnson), and the only three that Trixie Butler cut (accompanied by pianist Black Bob) that are worth hearing. Best known is Merline Johnson (known as "The Yas Yas Girl") who recorded around 95 numbers in her career. Her final recordings (six from 1941 and the previously unissued "Bad Whiskey Blues" from 1947) are among the better selections on this interesting reissue.
