简介
Monica da Silva has a new, tender take on Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side". da Silva, along with producer Chad Alger, really wanted to bring out the softer side of a song with heavy subject matter. "When Lou Reed released Walk On The Wild Side in July 1972, the song was considered taboo, because it touched upon transsexuality, drugs, male prostitution and oral sex. The lyrics were groundbreaking and risqué for their time, telling stories not usually told in rock songs," says da Silva. "We thought it be cool to keep the lo-fi, retro feel in the music, and combine it with a soft-spoken, matter of fact vocal delivery." da Silva and Alger comprise the indie duo Complicated Animals. Their music combines Indie Pop with Brazilian Bossa Nova to form their self-coined genre, Indie Nova. Their first album together, “Brasilissima”, was released under da Silva’s name in 2011. The album featured songs in both English and Portuguese, and was produced by Chad Alger and Bruce Driscoll (Blondfire, Avicii, Freedom Fry). The first single, “Aí Então”, was chosen from “tens of thousands of artists”, to be featured on the Putumayo World Music compilation “Brazilian Beat”. The upbeat, psychedelic-inspired “That’s Not The Way” was played during the programming of The World Cup in 2014. In early 2015, Complicated Animals was born. Their debut EP "In This Game" was released in February, 2015, and was called "a six song masterpiece that beautifully showcases the magic that happens when indie pop and vintage Brazilian bossa nova come together to tell a story." da Silva and Alger are currently recording a new album, due to be released in Summer 2016.
