简介

By turns hilarious and heartfelt, this cutting-edge acoustic duo melds original and traditional music with an elegant hint of jazz. ‘Jenny and Robin LIVE at Folkstage’ was recorded as part of 98.7 WFMT’s Folkstage radio program, originating in Chicago. Jenny serves as occasional host of the program, and when one of the acts was unable to fulfill its contract, host and producer Rich Warren invited Jenny and Robin to step in. Robin played his signature 1934 Gibson archtop L10; Jenny played bells and a Harmony guitar rebuilt by Bruce Roper of the Chicago Luthier Workshop and the band Sons of the Never Wrong. The album was recorded by Eric Arunas at WFMT during at the end of 2013, and released on April 5, 2014 at Fitzgerald’s, a fabled folk and roots club west of Chicago run by Bill and Kate Fitzgerald. The concert began with a potluck in the “quiet” music room, then members of Jenny and Robin’s three musical communities – Fitzgerald’s, the Old Town School of Folk Music, and Door County, WI – opened the show with half hour sets. In between Steve Doyle and Brian Wilke as the Duelin’ Teles played in the bar next door. Jenny and Robin performed songs from the album, including sing-a-longs like 'Jennifer Aniston,' 'Wedding Dress,' and 'Cupola,' then moved to the bar with their band The Significant Others featuring Dave and Jodi Walker, where they and sang and played for another 3 hours. The birdies were awake and singing when the music at Fitzgerald’s concluded that night! The celebration was momentous because up to that date, Jenny was known as a solo artist, and Robin for his work with the band Twang Bang. As a songwriter, guitarist, and live vocal looper, Jenny’s music has been described as falling “somewhere between winking innocence and worldly detachment,” garnering comparisons to Suzanne Vega, Imogene Heap, and Michael Hedges. She has been on the bill with Greg Brown, Michael Smith, Sons of the Never Wrong, and Sloan Wainwright, among many. Her three albums receive national and international airplay, and she is a grantee of the Illinois Arts Council. Robin’s wild guitar stylings harken back to the earliest forms of Jazz, Blues and Country guitar while his songs are quirky snapshots and celebrations of modern life in all of it strange and hilarious beauty. Robin has shared the stage with the likes of Dan Hicks, NRBQ and Reverend Horton Heat. He has toured the U.S. and Japan and released 2 albums with his celebrated duo Twang Bang, as well as a solo album, SONGS ABOUT WORK. To celebrate the first anniversary of its release, ‘Jenny and Robin LIVE at Folkstage’ is available on line for the first time.
