A Songwriter’s Biography ‘I was just sixteen as I recall In the summer of ‘62 With tired old strings on a second-hand guitar I’d written my first song for you.’ Robin J Rendell © 2010 I am a singer songwriter. I write songs I hope make people smile and laugh as well as reflect on the past, think about now and maybe even dream about the future. Words are my passion and I'm lucky now and then to find tunes in my head that help bring them alive. Sometimes I collaborate with friends and fellow songwriters, and my thanks go to them for their musical contributions to some of the songs I write and sing. My songs continue to be performed live by other artists and have featured on the radio; the first airtime in the mid-‘70s, and on CDs produced independently in the UK, Europe, South Africa and North America. I am rooted in folk music. I was inspired originally more by the words and music coming out of Greenwich Village and US colleges in the early '60s than by traditional British folk songs, although somewhere along the way the two styles have come together to influence what I write now. As my writing style has developed over the years, some of my earlier lyrics have changed to better reflect where I am now and hopefully to give new life to songs in need of a makeover. Some amendments, perhaps, but the original words are still in my head and never fail to surprise me when they turn up unannounced to a performance! I am first and foremost a storyteller. I have an addiction to rhyme and a rambling soul. I write because words are my friends; they help make me who I am. Thank you for letting me share my songs with you.
