It feels like we have been thinking about this demo almost since the last one - 'Rubies and Diamonds' - was released. Some of the songs were floating around, minding their own business for a while; some were unceremoniously yanked out of the ether and into existence with an urgency in directly proportion to the time we had to finalise the track listing! We wanted this to be a slightly fuller sound, to work some more layers into the recording but at the same time not paint ourselves into a corner with something we wouldn't be able perform live with the same four-piece line-up. To help us do this, we went back to Adie Hardy at Unit 2, confident he'd be able to both get us a great live feel to the basic tracks and, at the same time, rein in any excessive 'overdub noodlery' further down the line. Although it took nearly six elapsed months, the actual process was very efficient and most of these tracks are the first mixes as they felt good right off the bat. Jim got a new Fender Bass, Alex found a box of percussion and Andy's extramural activities have got his 'pipes' tuned up beautifully. All these things, along with a few good hooks and a continued commitment to the' whole' being significantly greater than the sum etc. has made us feel we are raising the bar a few more notches on what we can do as a band. We had great fun making this and hope you like the way it's turned out.
