简介
Grace McLean is a sucker for a good heartbreak. First there was Jesus, then all three Jewish boys in her small conservative town in Southern California, followed of course by obsessions with movie stars (Hank Azaria, Dan Aykroyd, Alan Rickman), sailors, and several men who turned out to be gay. Grace began writing ditties as a remedy for her pickled love life. She has developed a sparse, plunky style that underlines her often irreverent, always truthful lyrics. Grace's confessional approach to songwriting and performance lead her to develop a solo show, "Grace McLean Lives in Concert," featuring her music and unique concert stylings in a theatrical context. An involved and communal experience, the show features not only Grace's original music but goodie bags for each audience member, surprise guests, and a mystical shaman. Grace's unique and varied theatrical experience have shaped not only her sound but her performance sensibility. She is a true storyteller. Grace's use of unconventional and organic instrumentation creates a soul/pop playground through which her thoughtful, dreamy, quirky lyrics flit like children chasing bouncy balls. Layers of sound and rhythm alternately float and groove, soothe and punch. But the main event is her dynamic voice, whether wailing or wistful, demanding that the listener sit up and listen. "...like Streisand with a graduate degree." --lucidculture "McLean...is an innately charming performer with sharp comic timing and an ease that makes her irresistible." -- As Cassie Sees It "Grace McLean has a voice that could launch a thousand ships filled with historys greatest jazz musicians." -- broke-a** stuart "Above all, there's her voice: bold and agile, the perfect vessel for her funny, literate lyrics. McLean is a consummate performer; watching her sing, you'll feel like a long lost friend." --Beaconpass
