Artist's Bio Bashea “Iya” Jenkins-Imana has been committed to inspiring, educating, and empowering youth for over 16 years. Iya taught in Prince Georges County Schools for 14 years and served as a Master Educator in DC Public Schools where she provided instructional support to teachers. Iya is the owner of Kuumba Kids™, an innovative developer and provider of educational programs and materials for children. Iya’s energetic, enthusiastic, and motivating personality captivates children. As a Master Teacher and Artist, Iya provides educational enriching programs, professional development, in-school residences, and cultural arts events all over the country. As a seasoned educator, Iya uses the arts to support core-curriculum subjects such as reading, mathematics, science, and history. She also uses the arts to promote critical thinking, character development, cooperative work, and creativity.
