The latest release from Baatin, “You Can’t lose with the Blues”, explores his raw Guitar technique and Southern Baptist Preacher style Vocals. It is a mix that varies from traditional to progressive Blues. This CD showcases Baatin’s innovative interpretation of some well know Blues standards. Baatin’s “Soul Groover” recording is an eclectic mix of Jazz, Funk and Blues. This music, to a large degree reflects some of the indigenous music of the Macon and Middle Georgia [USA] area where he grew up. As many know, Macon Georgia is the home of many of the great pioneers of popular music such as James Brown Otis Redding, and Little Richard. This recording expresses much of the collective Soul found in the music in Georgia. It is largely based on what is known in music as the “groove”. A groove is and infectious rhythmic and melodic pattern that creates a momentum and draws the listener in. Henceforth, the name “Soul Groover”.. The music can be characterized as “Groove Jazz” that is to say, music with a groove that utilizes elements of Jazz improvisation. The CD is comprised of 13 tunes 7 of which are originals written by Baatin. The others explore Baatin’s interpretation of a wide range of music from Otis Redding’s Hard to handle, to the Billie Holiday hit “God Bless the child”. As usual, Baatin sings and plays all of the instruments on the record with the exception of Three songs. Those songs feature Anthony “DeMaxx” Thomas [also formerly of Parliament/Funkadelic] on Drums. All of the tunes carry a signature that Baatin’s own.
