简介

Second track, "Year Without A Summer" has already had a release on the compilation album "Global Jam", also available from CD Baby. It's a great favourite among visitors to the Dragonhead MySpace page and is a glorious, epic song about the summer of 1816, when volcanic dust from the eruption of Mount Tambora hung in the atmosphere, blotting out the sun. It's the reason Mary Shelley sheltered indoors and entertained herself by writing "Frankenstein". It's the reason Turner painted his glorious London sunsets. it's the reason thousands died of starvation. "Audrey Santo Is Asleep" is a tribute to the comatose stigmatic Audrey Santo, who sadly passed away in April 2007. Andy explains: "This song was actually written about ten years ago, after I'd first read about Audrey. I was fascinated and moved by her story and that of her family. I'm not religious, but I felt drawn to her and what she represented. I simpy felt for her on a human level - maybe she was just a kid who had fallen into unfortunate circumstances. Maybe, even, I was wrong about everything and she was a miracle-worker. Maybe there was something more sinister to it all." It's a tune from the heart. And from the head. Track four is "Somebody Left The Light On". It kicks off with a bass melody that could have come from The Flaming Lips and adds layers of shimmering guitar, synthesised harmonies and a lyric about the simplicity of caring deeply for someone. Next comes "Leon" - a massive, pounding tune, carried by a sparkling synth and a wall of guitars. Andy says: "It was actually inspired by an old Oliver Reed film called 'Curse Of The Werewolf'. It's that idea of waking up with blood on your hands and not knowing how it got there." It was the final track recorded for the album and displays a slightly harder and heavier sound than some of the other tracks, perhaps foreshadowing a future Dragonhead sound? The sixth song on "Slipstream Science" is an out-and-out three and a half minute pop song. The lyrics are somewhat cryptic, but all that Andy will give away is that "it's about politics". It's a bit of a groover, this one, with a proper guitar solo and everything. It marks the end of the first part of the album. After "I Before E", the album changes gear. "Mogfather In the House Of Dragonhead" is a thumping, deep bass riff over an insistent beat, punctuated by a slippery, jazzy and ghostly guitar line contributed by Pablo Rodriguez. One of those instrumental pieces that doesn't need any vocal line. It flows so beautifully that any vocal would disrupt it. It leads us into the last two epic tracks of this album. "Waiting For My Boat To Come In" weighs in at almost eleven minutes and not a second is wasted. It build and dips and builds again. Andy says: "It was conceived as almost a reply to the Walker Brothers classic "My Ship Is Coming In". In that fine old tune from the 60's, Scott walker sings hopefully about how suddenly his whole life is coming together, all his dreams are coming true and he's about to encounter the 'happy ending' we all crave. My song is about how most of us spend our entire lives waiting for that damned ship!" "Keeler Gap" is huge. Almost 14 minutes. It sucks you in. It will make your head spin. A bass riff that will stick in your head. A lyric about something that exists simply because it doesn't. Andy says: "The Keeler Gap is a 42 kilometre wide gap in the A-ring of Saturn. There's nothing there. It has a name, but it's a name for nothing. That nothing will probably always be there and always have a name. That's what the song's about." Which doesn't really help explain things at all. But who cares? It's a magnificent way to end the album. Slipstream Science. It's here. You'll love it.
