简介
Born in Germany and raised in Europe and Florida, Julia Helen discovered music through an initial love affair with the violin. In her early teens, she found an acoustic guitar in her parent's hall closet and hasn’t put it down since. Although a late bloomer when it came to stage performing, Julia was known, in her early years, to belt out lyrics in the back seat of her parent’s orange VW bus, while traveling around the country with them. Julia began performing in Gainesville, Florida, and grew into her songwriting when she moved to her adopted hometown of Berlin, Germany in 1998. She spent the next 2 years living and traveling around Germany, Poland, Sweden, and France and wrote the collection of songs that would make up her first album. In 2001, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida in to begin graduate school and continue playing music. Julia released her first studio album “Amarillo” in October 2002 in Tallahassee and “Rascal Yard” in 2004, a compilation of music by Florida singer/songwriters to which she contributed “This House is Dark.” Over the next few years, Julia finished graduate school and was inspired by wanderlust that took her up the east coast and around southern Europe for much of 2005. In late 2005, Julia settled in the San Francisco Bay area where she does clinical work with children and continues to write music, with the 2010 release of a new record, "When Summer Fled from Spring." Julia’s colorful experiences resonate through passionate vocals and intimate lyrics. Her music is defined by themes of love, loss, resilience, and a struggle to balance adventure while maintaining a sense of place.
