I was commissioned to create a piece for my class reunion to honor those class members who have passed on. My discussions with the sub-committee chair was a clear direction to create music that could be used with a video presentation of the fallen so that the final disc could be legally sold to classmates who wanted to have the final media product as a keepsake.

The concept was to provide whistles to the attendees, and when someone they loved was presented, they would blow their whistle in honor of everyone who had passed. The idea was rejected by the time the song reached the mastering point in the production process and was shelved.

Some 9-months later, my Aunt passed away, and our Arizona members of the Family would not be able to attend with such short notice, so we put a video together to be shared at the memorial service, and I brought the song off the shelf and used it as background music.

I loved my aunt Rochelle and all that she contributed to my maturity and youth, and I realize that there was little music to honor our loved ones who pass on; so, I give you a beautiful ballad that speaks gently to death and deeply of a spirit removed from our lives knowing full well that we will meet again. Until that moment, in honor of those that we love, “Blow the Whistle”
