The new millennium saw the beginnings of a musical force to be reckoned with – Afro- Soul! This dynamic group was formed in 2000 and comprises 8 musicians from various areas around the Western Cape, including Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Belhar and the Boland Towns of Worcester and Montagu. The individuals were brought together by their passion for music and singing and many of them started singing at an early age, in school and church choirs. The musical style of the group is a beautiful combination of African indigenous Mbaqanga, Afro-Jazz fusion and Soul and this is where the name Afro-Soul originates. The music presents an epitome that takes us back to our roots, fused with modern sounds that bring about a good mixture of African traditional, Afro Jazz sounds that make for an album that also deals with various issues that face society.
