简介
Azmariz is the seventh release from Invisible System following the recent bonus Invisible System album to World Music Network’s Rough Guide to Ethiopia and the album Tiga Tej Tibs released in September 2013 to critical acclaim. This album celebrates Invisible System’s work with Ethiopian Azmaris proving a healthy compilation of all their Azmari songs to date. Some are more traditional revamped in an Invisible System style, some use more modern or obscure sounds from Invisible System with Azmari tones to bring it both backwards and forwards in time. Work ranges from tracks with Mimi’s Azmari band (also linked by Dan to his early Dub Colossus recordings), Zewditu (Ethiopiques) and Grasella Luigi. The 8th release, vol 2 here, from Invisible System is a stripped down sound concentrating on Dan Harper's young love of acid music. The tracks were made in Mali, in the desert town of Sevare, near Mopti in 2000. Dan was an aid worker posted out there. He had just left living in Brixton and Brighton and sold his first sampler and limited studio gear to turn mobile. Slightly ahead of the game the laptop and Egosystems Wami Box Sampler/Soundcard never worked properly and were withdrawn from the market. Armed with this Dan wrestled with its many limitations and using solar panels produced this much more stripped down Invisible System sound before layering vocals and instruments on top in Ethiopia when the equipment and his income had vastly improved. It reflects his time living in Brighton and Brixton following a visit to India (including Goa) after graduating. It also shouts the intense heat and poverty of where he was based for 4 years living in the Sahara Desert at 48-52oC with a limited diet and facilities. This dual release also shows Harper's love of the traditional Azmari sound as well as his numerous fusions with them. Also available, the following six internationally acclaimed releases: Introducing Invisible System released by World Music Network as a bonus CD to the new Rough Guide to Ethiopia compilation CD (also hosts another Invisible System track).
