In the Scottish village of Aberfeldy, down a quiet lane just off the high street sits the award-winning Watermill book store and cofffee shop. Located in an old, stone-built former grain mill, it's a cosy meeting place for locals and visitors alike, and it was there in 2008 that local duo Douglas Craik and Linda Dewar were invited to play their first-ever Christmas engagement. When asked they immediately said yes, of course they knew lots of Christmas songs and would love to play for shoppers and coffee-drinkers...and then promptly dashed off to learn some Christmas songs. That was the beginning of a tradition that has become a staple of the festive season in Aberfeldy. Every year on the Sunday before Christmas the coffee shop is filled with local folk who come prepared to listen, sing along, and occasiionally even help out by taking a turn playing the jingle bells. By the second year people had started to ask when the duo would be making a Christmas CD. And by year three the requests were starting to drift into the territory known to advertising copy writers as "popular demand." So here it is... finally... a selection of holiday favourites as requested. Make yourself a cuppa hot chocolate or a mug of mulled wine, light the fire, grab a comfy blanket and enjoy. Douglas Craik and Linda Dewar are Perthshire-based folk singers and musicians. In addition to their solo projects, they perform together in the revue "Simply Burns," based on the life, songs and poems of Scotland's bard Robert Burns.
