RUDE AWAKENING'S final studio album (as of 2006) is a masterful collection spearheaded by producer Lee Popa. 1996 found the band with a huge collection of songs, which were all deemed by Popa to be too cluttered. He asked the band (Robert Ryder - Bass, Jim Hill - Guitar, Joey Ballard - Drums, Bill Sablan - Guitar, and Mitch Urban - Vocals) to experiment with stripping the songs from their progressive abundance and to focus on the meat of the material. The result was a concentrated effort which reaped great rewards. The combination of RUDE AWAKENING's song writing with Lee Popa's ingenuity became this heavy metal milestone. All the songs are chock full of hard rock goodness without "unnecessary repeat choruses and lengthy instrumentals". What is here is all the basic necessary elements of good metal: kick ass production, excellent musicianship, and inspired songs. You can't ask for more than that, and like their live shows, RUDE AWAKENING more than deliver on this mind-blowingly good release.
