Roman Stange - We Thought (ngr006) included remixes by Lock Smith & Kryztof Geldhof Roman Stange (We Thought): Roman Stange stems from a short line of artist who poke at the establishment through satirical cut-up means. His heroes obviously being Burroughs, Duchamp, and Rimbaud. Stange was born in Flint Michigan in 1971 and was raised in the area, just north of Detroit, for 18 years. Before starting his electronic music career in 1993, Roman served time with the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as a Military Intelligence Analyst, where in 1991 he helped stop the genocide of the Kurdish people of Iraq. Roman's music comes from his experiences in those mountains of Kurdistan and of other unfairnesses he has seen and tasted in his full life. "We Thought" uses cut-ups to tell the esoteric story of his old post-punk, rivet-head, and techno stomping days in and around Detroit in the late 80's and early 90's. While it's exoteric meaning, framed in songs of the Ravens and Crows, tells the story of greed and the collapse of the Industrial Age, one factory and neighborhood at a time. Which Stange was a witness to before leaving Michigan. Though it may not seem so, on first listen, all of Roman's output focuses on the fall of man.
