简介
Old Wave will be releasing their debut album January 15th, and it will be available for free download through the band's website. The self titled release has been nearly two years in the making and the evolution of it's songs and sound mirrors the progress of the band. The album was engineered by the band's songwriter, Adam Brock, and it's creation was an exercise in revision and arrangement. A batch of about 16 songs were re-imagined in various bedrooms, apartments, houses and studios before being pared down to the ten tracks that appear on the debut. This layered approach results in a rich and detailed sonic tapestry. Brock had self-recorded and released two solo EP's before bandmate Amanda Farmer heard one of his songs on the radio and approached him about adding her voice and keyboard talents. Adam knew drummer Barra Brown through the jazz scene and met singer/keyboardist Abbey Hickman shortly after she moved to Portland from Boston. The four quickly became close friends and started performing as the Adam Brock 4 in the spring of 2013. Brock was already working on Old Wave the album at this point, and the qualities of his new bandmates shaped the sound of the new material. Male female vocal interplay is featured prominently throughout, and sampled drums (a sound Brock had favored in past recordings) add texture while Barra's live percussion carries the groove. Only recently did the group abandon their early moniker for Old Wave. The new name suggests a timeless sound which the album supports. Despite the diversity and complexity of the arrangements, these are classic pop songs exploring themes of love, loss, and growth in an honest and personal way.
