The story of Dwayne “Mister Dee J” Mickens II from an outsider's perspective might seem a typical scenario for most who grew up in the church. However, Dwayne would wholeheartedly disagree. Raised as a pastor's son, Dwayne often had high expectations; primarily from people who watched his families every move. “You know its Just a totally different scenario”-Dwayne, states. “People always have these thoughts or ideas that pastors kids are evil, or think were better than everybody else. You can never really understand till you are one.” Dwayne admits this outside pressure eventually caused him to rebel against whatever People thought he should be, and decided to do what he wanted. Now a young teenager, he tried everything to fit in: fights, girls, nice clothes, destructive music and a lifestyle to match. However even in all his attempt to run away from the truth, at age 17 his father preached a message that ran him smack dab into it. “I'll never forget that day, never.”-Dwayne Explains. His father delivered a message pertaining to those who spend their lives in church and ministry and will still end up going to hell. Initially, fear struck in, following sorrow and finally regret for the way his life was headed. Dwayne had made previous plans that following high school he'd never step foot in church or around church people another day in his life. But God had other plans. One night during a prayer service, Dwayne finally surrendered his life to Christ and was filled with the spirit of God. Excited, he started college and found himself constantly challenged by others who were extremely opposed or questionative of their Christianity and the validity of Jesus and the bible. He had no answer to their arguments, questions, or definitive proof of what he believed in. So he searched, for years questioning many things he heard and learned in various church settings. He began to find the truth for himself, and in return was exposed to a lot of hypocrisy in todays modern churches, and the effect of Satanism in the media and the music, causing young people to turn away from the truth. Now 24, Dwayne's music is geared towards, salvation, truth, understanding and wisdom through the Holy Spirit. His sole objective is to show believers the importance of completely denying yourself and surrendering all of our will and desire to Christ. “We cant do what we want and serve God, thats now how he operates. Sadly, many churches today believe that is the way it goes. That has to change, or a lot of people are gonna miss out.”
