There is no shortage of quality Techno and House beats across the world from the Terminus camp as we roll on with the Journey Trough Time EP, delivered to us by UK-based DJ/producer Nico Kohler and backed by remixes from two excellent producers in their own right and also from the UK; Dorbachov and Bageera. Nico Kohler made his first appearance on Terminus Audio with remix duties on TMINUS001. Steadily climbing the ranks in the world of underground electronic music with a consistent series of releases and remixes on various established labels, Nico has returned with an original artist EP on Terminus Audio. Let us begin the Journey Through Time. The title track is a quirky Techno number featuring a warbling, warping bass line, shuffling ride cymbal patterns, well-placed punchy snares and an infectious groove that is sure to put smiles on faces as and bodies in motion as the song ticks down like the hands on a clock to its primary destination: a tongue-in-cheek breakdown with an "alarming" sample that is designed to wake anyone with a pulse. You might find the groove in "Journey Through Time" stuck in your head for some time to come, and this makes for a very clever addition to your DJ arsenal. Dorbachov is next with his take on "Journey Through Time", channeling the concept into a slightly more serious affair. The elements of the original are turned on their head in this class production featuring large, heavily reverberated effects and a churning, twisted bass that swings through the audio spectrum like a pendulum. The drop in this piece will make you do a double take, as the sample found in the original is taken to a new level of filtered, phased, flanged madness. "Mind Trip" is a dark, progressive outing with a bit more attitude from Nico Kohler. A solid, thumping kick drum and a driving stab press the momentum forward, leading into a haunting hook line and effective breakdowns and percussion. This is straight up, dark, no-frills Tech House, great for the meat of a set or to ramp things up. Last but not least; Bageera's interpretation of "Mind Trip" is a more sun-soaked, summery trip. Utilizing a hypnotic, lingering key progression from the original as a mainstay; this track features shifting clips and percussion, booming tribal drums, an upbeat lead line and the occasional female vocal.
