Blackpoint is a North Carolina based indie band founded by drummer and producer Josh Stevens. Originally created as a collective of local musicians designed to allow Stevens to work with a variety of genres and styles the band has since evolved into a core four-piece comprised of Crissie McCree, Derek Lee Bishop, Colin Neal and Stevens. Blackpoint successfully released its first album Let Us Make a Scene in August 2012. Crissie McCree serves as the bands lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Recently she was recognized as the best female rock vocalist at the 2013 Carolina Music Awards. Like McCree, Derek Lee Bishop (lead guitar, bass, and vocals) is an accomplished singer-songwriter who brings years of live performance and studio experience to the band. Colin Neal, the bands most recent addition, provides piano and backing vocals and has successfully contributed to the bands first and current albums, respectively. Josh Stevens plays drums and shapes Blackpoints sound as the bands primary producer. Beginning in March 2012 at Digital Wave Recording in Fayetteville, North Carolina Blackpoint initiated work on their first album Let Us Make a Scene. Produced by Stevens and engineered by Andy Pow, the band began to recruit contributing musicians. With notable names including Brad Muffett, John David Shaw, Aaron Bradley, Ernesto Rivas and Search Theory, they were able to craft an album spanning numerous rock genres. Paying tribute to some of their greatest influences, Stevens worked with local talent to match tracks and arrangements with the natural sound of the contributing artist. Chief engineer and owner Dave Harris mastered the album at Studio B Mastering in Charlotte, NC. In May of 2013 the band began work on its’ follow up EP titled A Family of Tree Farmers scheduled for release in February 2014. Recording was conducted at Digital Wave Recording and Bright Light Recording and the band is excited to be working with famed mastering engineer Tony Gillis at the Cutting Room in NY, NY. Tony’s impressive resume includes artists ranging from Jay-Z, Prince, The Postal Service and Steely Dan.
