简介

EARTH BIO: Los Angeles’ favorite bilingual funk-dance-rock duo Spigga are gearing up for a series of West Coast dates in support of their just-released album ‘06105: The Mixtape’ (Supermercado23/Navarre Corp.) Making music for iPods that ache to be boomboxes, Spigga is led by modern day renaissance man Giovanny Blanco (host/producer of the popular “LATV Live” program; former double-time doing frontman of Latin punk merrymakers Viva Malpache). The group is rounded out by Blanco’s collaborator Jaswho?, a house music master (Soulmine Records) who brings ample grooves to the Spigga table. Friends and musical collaborators since they met in Hartford Public High School back in the late 80’s, California transplants Blanco and Jaswho? named the album ‘06105’ as a shout-out to their Connecticut hometown. Spigga are continuing to make waves for themselves, most recently with their bilingual cover of “People of the Sun” for the new Rage Against the Machine tribute album ‘Tributo a Rage Against the Machine en Espanol’. The track was recently named a ‘Prioridad Discografica’ by Radio & Records magazine. Selected as the first single for the album (it also appears on Spigga’s own album), Spigga have created two brilliant and off-the-wall videos for the single, as well as commissioned seven remixes performed by Nova of NYC’s Pacha Massive and BradElectro from SF among others. Spigga are also indie favorites of a growing number of music supervisors, with the song “Papa Knows” landing on FX Networks’ The Shield, as well as the films ‘See Jane Run’, ‘First Snow’ and 'Steve-O's Wild Weekend'. When asked to describe his group’s appeal, Blanco comments “It’s quite simple, we’re a taco truck version of Hall and Oates. Ghetto Muzak.” Performing as a full six piece band at its live shows, the internationally-flavored act includes members from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Ireland, Mexico, Oakland, and New Jersey. SPIGGA, unsatisfied with the taste of the current music scene, have decided to create their own flavor. Un mundo with no boundaries. Where funk and rock collide, house and industrial reside with soul and garage goofiness. Drum and bass becomes guitars, drum and bass, but el sancocho doesn't stop there. SPIGGA is multilingual (ooohh, sexy), with songs in English and Spanish and other idioms as soon as they can learn how to say "booty" in other tongues. SPIGGA's odd lyrical content can best be described as Maniacodepresivopsychosexual. Happy and ready to party one second and sad or angry and ready to kick your a** in the next. Who said sex and politics don't mix? A person who's never had arroz con pollo with corn bread, that's who. INTERGALACTIC BIO: SPIGGA is comprised of dos intergalactic mofo's. JASWHO?, a SF house music master (Soulmine Records) who's spent some time with funk rock (Argonaut) and reggae (Cool Runnnings), and GIOVANNY BLANCO, whose experience includes industrial (Liquid Circus), funk (G-Men) and currently Latin Rock with L.A. faves, Viva Malpache! Together, these two throw down some crazy a** sh*t. There, I said it. Watcha gonna do 'bout it? (subliminal message: listen to the music) As for the name, it's all about taking stereotypes and labels, adding your own condiments (we prefer picante) and flipping the script. Hell, that pretty much describes the band. A little electronic, a little rock and a whole lotta funk in english and spanish, 'cause two tongues are better than one. Wouldn't you like to be a SPIGGA, too? C'mon...
