Every section of the record includes positive, meaningful lyrics. From Jibreel Khumas’ poetic, contextual flows, Lyndora Turner’s soulful riffs and runs, to Sota’s unapologetic rhymes, and Thandisizwe’s powerful, poetic words; “Heal the Hood” is an audible vibration that has the will to do exactly what the name of the record says. The chorus especially (if chanted aloud) psychologically severs the tentacles of the many “isms” in which has plagued the “hood;” racism, colonialism, imperialism, classism, etc. “Heal the Hood” is a spiritual, lyrical potion from Melanoid ancestors stolen from the shores of Alkebulan (Africa). Once the masses of Melanoid people have seen, felt, or heard the lyrics to the record, they will discover the navigation tools that were hidden from them.
