It all comes down to frequency. What we perceive as light, what we perceive as sound. Is it a compressed wave or a stretched one? We are only able to detect these wavelengths in the bands that our technology allows us to, through our human body and through devices such as microphones, telescopes and radio dishes. We learn to filter our environment, focusing on certain frequencies, while dismissing others. We may find that we resonate with certain frequency bands and tune into them more often than others. Ever heard an interesting sound and wondered where it originated? Maybe the sound of a strange bird or insect or a thumping bassline caught your attention and stirred the desire to explore, to find out more. Back in the early 90\'s, the sounds one heard at an underground dance party were not as easy to come by as they are today. The parties were hundreds of miles away from each other, the producer\'s released their tracks on vinyl, the DJ\'s mixes were distributed on cassette tape, always in limited quantity, the only way to hear the music was to go to a party, get a cassette, know a slick hipster or be near an underground music store. In this modern age of mass media downloading, much of this process has been bypassed, producers release their tracks online, DJs select the tracks, placing them into their harddrive, then make their sets available online for downloading into an mp3 playback device. As should be expected, there are ups and downs when it comes to this trend. A major plus being that the data is preserved in a remarkable fashion, in that the playback devices of our modern age can literally remember vast libraries of music. It is possible that out of this vastness a skimming effect could emerge however, resulting in only a superficial perspective and experience. Imagine a few of the albums that you may have particularly enjoyed over the years, what was it about that album that caught your attention? Did you purchase the album? Was it given to you? Did the packaging enhance your experience, or deepen your understanding of the intent? Were you immediately overtaken by the album or did it take several listens? More and more the job of musical selection is being turned over to machines, just hit the shuffle function and you get your own personal DJ, a program skimming files which it\'s been given permission to browse through. Grabbing them from here and there, lining \'em up for playback. Welcome to the wonderful world of programs. Around a century ago, folks tuned their amplitude modulation receiving devices into their favorite frequency so as not to miss their regular broadcasts. Things have come a long way since then, but we still enjoy our programs. Waveform Modulations was founded to maintain a frequency, to collect quality programming in order that this programming can be preserved and made available for those who might gravitate towards the specific frequencies that these collections of programs mentioned herein inhabit. All official Waveform Modulations releases are available in CD and MP3 format, here on CD Baby and through other sites like Amazon, iTunes, Napster and more. www.waveformmodulations.com
