I choose to ignore what are the perceived divisions between different styles of music. I draw with equal enthusiasm from the music of Beethoven as I do from Billy Strayhorn. I have learned as much about rhythm by listening to tabla players as I have by listening to jazz drummers. I am equally excited by discovering the music of Landini as I am the music of Herbie Nichols. I also believe no one ever created music that is of any greater significance than The Beatles. It is with this same attitude that I listen, learn, and prepare music to share with an audience. I find true joy in bridging the gaps between Bach and Kurt Cobain and then seeing the reaction in the eyes of an audience as they take in a re-imagined version of a famous piece reset in a different style.
