Shouting and spouting call-and-response robo-vocals that blend riot grrrl and Devo, Matt Steinke and Audrey Marrs have a rambunctious, revved-engine energy that recalls everyone from Wire to Bikini Kill. This electro-punk clickety-clack is so impossibly addictive from the get-go that the album's only disappointment is that it whizzes by far too fast. Only four tracks break the two-minute mark, and songs like "Name Tag," "Pearl Drop," and "Photon" are pure momentum, practically over before they begin. Despite -- or perhaps because of -- its brevity, however, Bionic Parts is one of the most compelling and enjoyable debuts of the '90s.
