Redd Volkaert was a successor to Roy Nichols in Merle Haggard's backing band, and is "among the country’s top Telecaster guitar slingers. Volkaert won a 2009 Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance. Andrew Sansom is the executive director of River Systems Institute, he is one of the state's leading conservationists, and an ardent advocate for preserving and protecting Texas waterways. He is a former Executive Director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Executive Director of the Texas Nature Conservancy. For his commitment to the management and protection of natural resources, Dr. Sansom is a recipient of the Chevron Conservation Award, The Chuck Yeager Award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, The Pugsley Medal from the National Park Foundation, the Seton Award from the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nature Conservancy. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of Austin College and Texas Tech University. He is the author of many books including Scout, the Christmas Dog. Joel Guzman is a Grammy Award winning Accordionist, Singer and Producer, was born and raised in the state of Washington. He grew up playing conjunto in his father’s band in Washington state, where his family relocated from Texas in the 1950s. Over the years he played with the greats, includ-ing Santiago Almeida and Flaco Jiménez. Guzmán returned to Texas in the 1980s and spent the next three decades—along with singer-songwriter and longtime collaborator Sarah Fox—pushing the boundaries of Tex-Mex music. Clemente F. Guzman III is an artist at Texas Parks & Wildlife. He has painted many Texas game stamps, license plates, and has contributed to many publications. He has illustrated several books including Scout, the Christmas Dog. He also enjoys the outdoors and creating music. His work can be found in public and private collections.
