简介
The London String Ensemble consists of some of Englands top musicians. Theirs is a golden blend of violins, cellos and basses, graced by the rippling accompaniment of the harp, and they play with an inspiration that enhances the heartwarming spirit of these sacred selections. The smooth arrangements shift the melody from one instrumental section to another with pleasingly harmonious results. Here then, are familiar hymns and gospel songs you may want to sing along with – songs of heartfelt faith and devotion, presented for your pleasure and inspiration. Five of the beautiful interpretations are from the pen of John W. Peterson, considered one of America's foremost composers of gospel music. He has more than 1,000 compositions to his credit, many of which have been translated and published in other lands. An all-around musician, John Peterson strums guitar, plays piano and sings with a smooth, soothing style that brings out depths of meaning in every religious song. From the vast Peterson collection, The London String Ensemble offers the plaintive and uplifting No Other Song; Sometime, with its happy rhythms; the bright and cheerful God Is Love; the question-and-answer pattern of Do You Wonder; and the lovely I Touched The Heart Of God. Many of the other stirring renditions have an interesting history. The Church's One Foundation is the work of Samuel S. Wesley, a nationally renowned 19th Century English organist and composer. The beloved hymn, I Need Thee Every Hour, was especially prepared for the convention of the National Baptist Sunday School Association in 1872. Beneath The Cross Of Jesus is a selection favored troughout the world during the Lenten season. The march-like Lead On, O King Eternal has been sung at Bible School and Seminary commencement exercises for over one hundred years. Holy Ghost With Light Divine is one of the well-loved hymns from the prolific pen of clergyman-composer Rev. Andrew Reed, who was born in London in 1787. Completing the roster of selections are the majestic Still, Still With Thee, based on a melody by Felix Mendelssohn, and Near To The Heart Of God, a hymn often used as a theme for religious programs on radio and television.
