Proximity: This song deals with a few themes that I often find recurring in my music: patience, discontent, and the changing chapters of my life. What started as a song about a relationship turned into a song about my inability to force change, and how I've learned to accept the good of my current situation. Through the years it has consistently reminded me to find peace where I am. Anything: One day, in my late teens, I was walking around the house and the hook for this song popped into my head. I sang it for part of the day, then sat down and formulated some verses. I had no music software at the time, so I used my brother's laptop to create basic midi files and document the piano part. That still probably exists somewhere. This song is a fun sojourn into the world of my favorite singer-songwriter/pop artists of the time. We Had Forgot: I wrote this song in one go, lying on the bed of my then-boyfriend one morning. He had gone to class, I reached over for his guitar, and "We Had Forgot Came" out. I knew that I wanted the initial tune to go up the scale 3, 5, 7, but that was the extend of my premeditation. It was a new feeling at the time that I had taken someone for granted, and they meant more to me than I realized. Animal: Human beings are endlessly fascinating to me. Our tendencies, decisions, reactions, and predispositions reveal such a complex network of cause and effect that I don't think I'll ever tire of deciphering the codes. I was in a graduate education class for psychology one summer when these thoughts and musings came to a head and "Animal" was born. Another one-sitter, this song reflects on our society's tendency to forget the most fundamental piece to understanding our human nature: that we are all animals.
