简介
As seen on CBS, MTV, the cover of Music Connection Magazine, and performing across the U.S., Japan, Europe, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia, to name a few, Kat releases a new EP "Oh!". Parsons has opened for or shared bills with heavy hitters like Billy Corgan, Jim White, Spin Doctors, and Sara Bareilles. Kat Parsons is a fearless performer who walks the line between innocence and exuberance. Equally funny and effortlessly sexy, her acute self-awareness allows her to be both excitable (she’s a “hugger”) and self-deprecating. With the release of three EPs, each showcasing a distinct image and sound, Kat Parsons brings her multifaceted personality – and talent—to the forefront. "A refreshing joy..." Songwriter's Monthly "Confident, dynamic songs that possess a fiery spirit...enough to make her career slam into high gear." - The Washington Post Parsons’ music and beautiful voice remain an accurate reflection of her glowing and layered personality: it reveals her as tough, yet vulnerable; knowing yet naïve; expecting the best in people without being blind to their faults. Her raw authenticity and uncanny ability to connect with listeners has proven that she’ll never bend to fit other’s expectations of her. NOTE FROM KAT: "My mom is a psychotherapist. So is my aunt and so is my other aunt. My other three aunts conduct church choirs. A family get together is intense (and wonderful) and consists of a lot of conversations about self awareness, introspection, discovery and exploration of challenges, struggles and possibility. It also involves a lot of singing! I love feelings. I love talking and singing about them even more. ha! I am about to release the second in my series of three EP's. The first, aptly named "Talk to Me", featured introspective songs that centered around making peace with the dissonance between expectation and reality, between where, what and how I expected life to go and how it actually goes. That ranges from concern that I haven't yet "saved the world" to disappointment that I still require quarters to do my laundry and can't figure out how to cook to save my life! :) After recording "Talk to Me", I just wanted to dance and make cakes. (Though I can't cook, my baking is decent.) I expressed this desire to fellow singer-songwriter, Matt Miller (of Graydon) so we went to his downtown Los Angeles studio space, a warehouse filled like a beehive with musicians banging drums to maximum capacity and buzzing all around. I started to "bop around" and Matt played guitar to my movement. I began singing and "Love Changes Everything", "What's Wrong?" and "Happy" were born. It was with great excitement that we wrote these songs...and about a year and a quarter ago, I went into the studio to record my FIRST EVER happy love songs. (Not counting the one I wrote for a stranger when I was on an MTV show....and that did not go well.) And now I am determined to share my dance moves with the world, who has been deprived far too long of my own personal brand of booty shaking (read: uncategorizable, not in a good way). In fact, we even made a dance video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5bDT6ftBCo&hd=1 - I love it!! I funded the promotion of this project through Kickstarter. This is my second time using crowd-fan-funding. I recorded an album in 2005 through fan funding as well. A lot of my plans revolve around direct fan interaction through live shows and my email list. I have a lot of fun with my fans and they are the reason I have been able to keep it all going full time for years. Of course, licensing is a big part of everything....and I hope to make a million dollars getting "Love Changes Everything" placed in a commercial. I decided to make three different EPs because I am a horrible decision maker. And also because I was in the mood to experiment and try different things with my music...to not be precious about it....to dress the songs up in different ways. There were also three different fantastic producers with whom I was interested in working. I wanted each EP to have a different mood and vibe. I wasn't sure how they would tie together, but that was not a concern. My priority was to quench my curiosity of how things could sound. They've all come out with different feels: "Talk to Me" singer-songwriter pop, "Oh!" is more acoustic/toe tapping pop...complete with a reggae infused song (!), and the last one, "It Matters to Me" (to be released in Jan 2013) is most bare bones singer-songwriter - includes a lovely lullaby with a full string section. One of the things I learned through this process is that I am not going to sound like Radiohead no matter how much I suggest the bass line from "All I Need" to be added into every song. And, it turns out, that's fine. I didn't need to have a "theme" worked out ahead of time or a branding strategy or...it turns out that I am me and that comes through no matter what "clothes" I wear. Some people will dig it and some won't. Works for me. Who you are works for me too. Thanks for reading and I hope to connect and bring some joy to your life."
