What most don't know is that Hendrix is an Avid Composer of serious instrumental music. Sekigahara is his first offering of its kind. This wonderful piece skillfully blends western classical style with the beautiful sounds of China and Japan. The first movement’s short motif brilliantly moves into movement #2 with its thunderous tympani conjuring images of the pivotal battle this piece was named for. The brief third movement showcases the percussion section before flowing effortlessly into the 21st century blending the sounds of the Chinese Pipa, Electric Bass, Trap set, etc. The Cadenza completes the piece with a beautiful variation on the main theme rendered on piano.
