Convent was born from a chance meeting between guitarists Brian Kirby and Steven Kelley. While initially attempting to breathe life back into Kirby’s already existing project, they found that their musical tastes and influences differed from that of the other members and decided to leave the group and pursue their own band. After writing a number of demo tracks Kirby and Steven contacted vocalist Phil Hatchet-Yau, an acquaintance of Kirby’s that had recently moved to San Diego, hoping to bring his experience and aggressive vocal style into the mix. The choice proved to be the right one and the trio began searching for the right people to complete the bands lineup. After much trial and error drummer Tushant Bonner and bassist Nathan Jardin were recruited to fill the open positions and the band that would become Convent took shape.

The writing process began immediately, drawing from the wide range of styles and influences each member brought to the table, and a sound that can be described as aggressive, technical, heavy and melodic emerged. As songs quickly fell into place Convent began looking at opportunities to share their music with others, and soon found themselves on stage alongside other San Diego acts.

As of July 28th 2013, the band has begun recording songs for their debut EP, due out September 21st of the same year. With an energetic live show, aggressive music and a “go big or go home” attitude, Convent is ready to unleash their music upon a far too quiet metal scene.
