Sundelay Sundelay are a pop rock band who's distinctive sound is composed of a mix of various musical styles. The band members of Sundelay are all highly experienced musicians with diverse musical backgrounds in cover, funk, rock, pop, ska and jazz bands and jam projects. Sundelay started out as a temporary project. Kor Span had written a large collection of beautiful songs throughout the years. Songs which should not be allowed to be lost forever. Therefore, Wander and Kor decided to gather up some musicians who started working on the songs and develloping their own sound, with the objective of producing an album and afterwards going their own seperate ways again. Whilst rehearsing they received an invitation to perform at a local festival. This small taste of live action played a big part in the decision to take things to the next level and become a real band. By the time the album was finished, there was no turning back. Sundelay were alive and kicking and nothing could stop them! All band members of Sundelay have a wide varience of experience in bands and on stage. Most of them have played in several bands with performances at local venues as well as playing abroad. A few of the bandmembers have enjoyed playing together with local and international artists such as Piter Wilkens (Frisian folk hero) and Marcel Kapteijn (Ten Sharp). Singer songwriter Kor has won several prizes in the past. In 2000 he won first place at "popping up in Ooststellingwerf" (festival/art project by Georgina Star) and first place at "De Kleine prijs van Friesland" (Small Price of Friesland). More recently Sundelay reached the semi finals of "De Kleine prijs van Friesland" in 2008. In 2011 they won first place, as well as the audience award at the "Rock Impressions" festival. Thanks to the different musical influences and preferences of the individual band members Sundelay have developed their own distinctive sound. It is a surprising mix of funk, rock, jazz and pop. Some people call it 'indie rock' while others prefer calling it 'alternative pop'. The band members themselves prefer just calling it Sundelay.
