Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Brian Marchese has spent the better part of the last decade or two playing drums for dozens of bands and solo artists around his current hometown of Northampton, Massachusetts. In the early 2000's some of the area's better songwriters took note of the home demos he'd sheepishly play for them and suggested he record a proper album. 2004 saw Sitting next to Brian's debut album, A Cartoon, A Joke, which boasted guests like Gideon Freudmann, Bruce Tull and Joe Boyle. 2007 saw the follow up, Polite, which had a more cohesive feel and solidified lineup. Still, guests such as Dennis Crommett (Winterpills) and Kevin O'Rourke (Lo Fine) were invited to lend their talents. The Wrong Tree E.P also had a solid lineup (Henning Ohlenbusch, Thane Thomsen and Jason Bourgeois), was released in early 2011 to much acclaim. Marchese thought that might be it for the project. Then more songs happened. Sigh...time to make a new album. So now, December 2014 The Cobbler is born. Like the rest, this one is also on Rub Wrongways Records and was recorded and co-produced by Henning Ohlenbusch. Going back to the star-studded formula of the debut album, The Cobbler boasts appearances by The Winterpills' Philip Price, Lord Russ, Mark Mulcahy, Lesa Bezo (The Fawns), Dave Trenholm, the excellent band Astrobeast, and Brian's partner, Beth Savage Marchese, who lends her lovely voice and poetic lyrics to two songs. All the Sitting Next to Brian albums are worth a listen and can be found on various sites. The Cobbler, however, may top them all.
