Somos Hip Hop R@DiO / SomosHipHop.com / Mission Statement Somos Hip Hop R@DiO started as an online Latin Hip Hop Radio in 2003, the main reason for Somos hip hop to surface on the internet was the lack of variety of Latin Hip Hop on the radio stations and the lack of support for local and independent rap artists among other things. Somos Hip Hop R@DiO was founded with the intention to give independent rap artists from all Latin America and the U.S. a platform to broadcast their art and to gather the Independent Latin hip hop scattered all over the world to showcase it online with the following goal of finding a way thru the FM and the radio airwaves. Today just like Hip Hop in the English language, Latin Hip Hop is in a state of decadence, (Note: "Reggaeton" IS NOT Latin Hip Hop) at least the “Latin Hip Hop” the media, radio stations and TV Channels try to give us, (Lean Like a Cholo for example, Garbage) for the most part Latin Hip Hop that major labels put out on a massive scale lack the essence of hip hop and contribute in nothing to the growth and advancement of our people. Promoting violence, addictions, stupidity and disrespect among us is NOT what Hip Hop is all about. All of this while thousand of real Hip Hop artists working on an independent level for the most part lacking the funds needed to produce their material stay in the dark and unknown for the simple fact that their hip hop is actually an instrument of mental elevation education and growth and also include all the elements of Hip Hop. For the big corporations that own the mayor record labels stupidity and ignorance is a commodity, Education and elevation is not. For the past 5 years Somos hip hop radio has been broadcasting and streaming Latin Hip Hop from all Latin America and from Latinos living in the united states reaching thousands of people from California to New York, from Mexico and Guatemala to South America, Europe, Asia and Africa to places like Japan, Spain, Russia and countries as far as the middle and far east like India. The majority of the audience of Somos hip hop resides in the American continent but the mention of those other countries in other continents is just to show how powerful and magnetic Independent or Underground Latin Hip Hop is and how much is overlooked by the media and radio stations not only in the united states but in Latino America as well.
