简介

Violinist Scott Flavin enjoys a busy and versatile career. He is professor of violin at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, where he is a member of the internationally acclaimed Bergonzi String Quartet. He is also concertmaster of Florida Grand Opera, a position he has held since 2001. As a recitalist and chamber musician he performs in halls across the country, and is currently a member of the chamber ensemble Pulse. He performs on a rare Italian violin made by Tomaso Eberle in 1780. In this album, he is joined for the second time by pianist Gregory Taylor, who has played to critical acclaim in concert halls across the United States and Europe and has spent summers at chamber music festivals in Portugal, Salzburg, Hew Hampshire, and North Carolina. The Washington Post speaks of his playing as "powerful and convincing", the Anchorage Daily News, "exciting and vivacious". He has received top prizes at national and international competitions, including first prize at the Elizabeth Davis Competition in Washington, DC, and a top prizewinner at the Ibla International Piano Competition in Ragusa-Ibla, Italy. He was a full scholarship and teaching assistant at the Frost School of Music, where he received both his Master's and Doctoral degrees. In this album, they survey Brahms' complete violin sonatas, masterworks of the genre, which cover several creative periods of the great Romantic composer's output. Recorded at the acoustically-splendid Gusman Concert Hall, at the Frost School of Music, this new recording successfully captures the energy and passion of a live performance, and is a welcome addition to these oft-recorded masterworks. Also available by these artists is "Great Violin Solos of the Opera and Ballet".
