Sons of the Golden West explores the nuanced textures of indie rock, singer/songwriter, and Americana. The music drips with a Big Sky guitar sound, at times drawing on spaghetti western. SOTGW is based in Sonoma County, California. The West Coast roots run deep for songwriter Eric Butterfield, a fourth-generation Californian who grew up in Los Angeles. This heritage and a sense of a rapidly changing landscape losing its history inspire much of what has become the varied sound of Sons of the Golden West (www.sonsofthegoldenwest.com). Travel and relocation inform much of the sound, incorporating the sounds and style of previous domiciles: the vibrant Americana and garage rock music scenes in Denver, Colorado; raucous indie rock in Dublin, Ireland; and the wide variety of music on display in San Francisco. Songs by Sons of the Golden West have appeared in more than 60 TV shows, including Porter Ridge (Discovery), Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet (Nat Geo Wild), Legend of Mick Dodge (National Geographic Explorer), CBS College Sports, Last Call With Carson Daly (NBC), True Life (MTV), Real Housewives of Atlanta (Bravo), and Last Chance Highway (Animal Planet). The song "Teriza,” from the debut CD, appeared in a YouTube video narrated by Ashley Judd, "Help Save Idaho's Wolves."
